Gujarat Titans suffered a huge blow as their star batter Kane Williamson has been ruled out from the remainder of the IPL 2023 due to a knee injury. In the season opener against CSK, Williamson tried to attempt an unbelievable catch and that’s when his knee got injured at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
“It is sad to lose Kane to injury so early in the tournament. We wish him a speedy recovery, with the hope of seeing him in action very soon,” said Vikram Solanki.
Gujarat Titans took to their Twitter handle and posted a picture of Kane and wrote, "We regret to announce, Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the TATA IPL 2023, after sustaining an injury in the season opener against Chennai Super Kings. We wish our Titan a speedy recovery and hope for his early return."
Williamson will now be traveling home to New Zealand for further treatment. The incident transpired in the 13th over of the match on Friday, when CSK’s Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed a ball in the air and the 32-year-old wanted to take the catch but then he suffered a bad landing and could not get up.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead was also disappointed with Kane’s injury.
“I had just messaged him. He (Williamson) has gone for the scans, once he comes back after the scans and doctors check (on him), then only we will be able to know what exactly it is,” he had said.
Williamson started playing IPL back in 2015 and has featured in a total of 77 IPL matches so far. He has gathered 2101 runs at an average of 36.22 with a healthy strike rate of 126.03. In the 2018 edition of IPL, he was the leading run-scorer and also helped Sunrisers make it to the final.
