CSK vs DC, Chennai: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) continued their impressive home record in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and completed a 27-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday (May 10). CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first. His assessment of the wicket at the toss that it will either stay the same or will slow down turned out to be true as chasing 169 to win, DC could only muster 140/8 in their 20 overs.

This was the seventh successive time that Chennai defeated Delhi at the Chepauk which has been their fortress over the years. This year too, a season which has been regarded as one of diminished home advantage, CSK happen to be the only side that have a better record at home than away games. Batting first, Ruturaj Gaikwad (24 off 18) and Devon Conway (10 off 13) got the Men in Yellow to a decent start before Axar Patel brought Conway's troubled stay at the wicket to an end.

Chennai's innings was studded with healthy contributions from multiple players like Ajinkya Rahane (21 off 20), Shivam Dube (25 off 12), Ambati Rayudu (23 off 17). However, it was really the finishing cameos from Ravindra Jadeja (21 off 16) and Dhoni (20 off 9) that helped the home team get past 160.

Jadeja returnd to finish with figures of 1 for 19 with the ball and bagged the Player of the Match recognition. However, it was the spell from Deepak Chahar that set things up in the second innings. Chahar removed David Warner for a duck in the first over before returning to dismiss Phil Salt. Not much later, there was a massive miscommunication between Mitchell Marsh and Manish Pandey which led to the Australian getting run out.

Post that, DC were playing catch up and even though Rilee Rossouw (35 off 37) and Axar Patel (21 off 12) tried to take the game deeper and make a match out it, they left themselves too much to do in the end, needing 60 to win from 18 balls at one stage. Patel (2/27) and Marsh (3/18) had earlier been among the best Delhi bowlers after DC was asked to field first by CSK skipper Dhoni.

Chennai's win has taken them to the 15 points from 12 matches as they consolidated their position in the top half while DC remain at the bottom of the table with 8 points from 11 games.
