Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Nitish Rana has been punished by the Indian Premier League (IPL) organisers after his team maintained slow over-rate during their IPL match against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday (May 14) at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Nitish Rana has been fined Rs. 24 lakh, and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, has been fined Rs. 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee, whichever is lesser, a press release from IPL stated.

This is for the second time when Kolkata Knight Riders have been fined because of slow over rate in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. KKR failed to bowl the final 20th over in time against Chennai Super Kings and as per the new rules, on-field umpires asked KKR to field not more than four fielders outside the 30-yard circle. Under normal circumstances, without any fielding restrictions, Kolkata Knight Riders could have fielded five players outside the 30-yard circle.

"Kolkata Knight Riders Captain Nitish Rana has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 14, 2023," IPL said in a press release.

"As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Rana has been fined Rs. 24 lakh and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, is fined Rs. 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee, whichever is lesser."

Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders were also found guilty of slow over rate in KKR vs PBKS IPL 2023 match. Back then, Nitish Rana was fined 12 lakhs, and this time the fine imposed on him has been doubled as he has repeated the same offence. As per new rules, fine imposed on the captain along with the team is doubled if the offence is repeated.
