Chennai Super Kings (CSK) recorded a maginificient last-ball win over the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to claim their fifth title. It was a truly remarkabke campaign for the Men in Yellow who had had finished on the ninth place in the previous season but came back from there to not only seal a top-two spot in the league stage but beat the league-stage toppers Gujarat twice, first in the Qualifier and then in a thrilling finale in a rain-hit fixture.
The Player of the Match in the final was CSK's Devon Conway who top-scored for them with a 27-ball 45 and laid a solid foundation for Chennai's run-chase who were given a revised target of 171 in 15 overs after GT had posted 214/4 in their 20 overs. After Ravindra Jadeja's scored 10 off the final 2 deliveries and there was ecstasy in the CSK camp, Conway had described the IPL win as the greatest one of his career. However, he has now offered a clarification following a bit of a social media backlash.
Users on the internet were quick to remind the Kiwi cricketer that he had won the ICC World Test Championship final for New Zealand and following such comments, Conway, in a recent interview, said that he rates it as the greatest T20 win and not overall.
"I think it’s the best T20 victory of my career, I wouldn’t say it’s overall my best. But certainly best T20 victory or achievement in my career," Conway told RNZ.
"I think the test championship final, winning that for New Zealand was certainly very, very special," he added.
He described playing in the IPL as a "great experience". He said that he was fortunate that he had played a few matches towards the backend of IPL 2022 but when the team management showed faith in him throughout the season, it helped him do well this season. Conway finished with 672 runs from 16 matches this year.
