IPL 2023 is just hours away from us as it is set to begin on March 31. The 16th season of IPL is unique as BCCI has introduced some new changes in the playing conditions.
Here are the changes:
Impact Player Rule
BCCI has already tried and evaluated this rule in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and also it has been tested in the Australian Big Bash League. As per this rule, every team can change one player in the middle of the game according to their desire.
A player can of everything such as batting, bowling, and fielding as an impact player. An impact player can be brought into the field before the start of the innings, or after the completion of an over. However, only the Indian player can become the impact player unless the team has fewer than four foreign players in the Playing XI.
“I don’t know whether it will impact an all-rounder, an all-rounder will always be an all-rounder. He will give you an option of bowling him anytime and making him bat anytime. Yes, with that 12th player, you can always fill that gap of having a 5th bowler or an extra batter. But you still want to put your best players on the park. There may be a slight difference to it but I don’t think it’s going to impact so much in terms of having an all-rounder. Like I said, we will see what the other teams do and try and learn from it as well, “ Sharma said before the IPL in a Mumbai Indians press conference.
Team Sheets are not allowed at the Toss
Skippers do not require to submit their respective team sheets at the time of the toss. All the teams can now negate the toss benefit by drafting in the teams depending on the result of the toss. They are permitted to draft 11 players alongside 5 substitutes out of which they can call one player as an impact player in between the game.
DRS Calls
Players can now confront the wide balls and no balls, given by the on-field umpires. Recently it was evident in the Women’s Premier League where BCCI introduced the technology for the first time.
