New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants has roped in Australian cricketer Andrew Tye as a replacement for injured England pacer Mark Wood for the upcoming Indian Premier League.


The announcement was made via an IPL media advisory.


Wood suffered an elbow injury during England's first Test against West Indies earlier this month. In the IPL mega auction in February this year, Wood was picked by LSG for Rs 7.5 crore. Tye will join LSG for the price of Rs 1 crore.


Wood's stint with Super Giants' would have been his second outing in the IPL after playing in the 2018 season opener for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The right-arm pacer has represented Australia in 32 T20Is and picked 47 wickets. He has played 27 IPL matches and has picked 40 wickets.


In the previous edition, Tye played for the Rajasthan Royals. He had left the IPL midway due to personal reasons.


One of the two new teams to make their debut in the tournament this year, LSG will begin their IPL 2022 campaign on March 28 when they take on Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.


The IPL-15 begins with a match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26.


Meanwhile, KKR will miss the services of Australian players Pat Cummins and Aaron Finch in their first five matches, PTI quoted the team's mentor David Hussey as saying.


KKR were earlier dealt a blow after T20 specialist Alex Hales withdrew from the tournament citing bubble fatigue.
