New Delhi: Former Indian cricket team player Gautam Gambhir believes that West Indies explosive batsman Chris Gayle should be opening for his team Punjab Kings in the second half of IPL 2021. He said that playing Gayle at number three is "beyond incomprehensible."

Gautam Gambhir said: "Chris Gayle should do opening. If Gayle is in your team, why do you want him to play at No.3? There's no point to play by him at number three. West Indies and Punjab Kings have done so. I don't know why they did so."

The former Indian batsman added, "if Gayle is in the playing XI, he should come as an opener. Because he doesn't waste balls."

Gambhir felt that Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was finding it difficult to score quickly while batting after retiring from International Cricket.

"Dhoni is a player who comes fourth or fifth. But we saw in the first stage that he was coming down to the sixth or seventh number. There were times when he landed Sam Curran before himself. The reason behind this is that he is probably trying to change as a mentor and wicketkeeper who can lead the team and wicketkeeping," the MP from Delhi said.

Gambhir further added, "Dhoni is finding it difficult because once you stop playing International Cricket, IPL becomes a difficult tournament. In IPL, you have to face top quality bowlers."
