Mumbai Indians faced a humiliating defeat against Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match on Saturday (April 8). Invited to bat first, Mumbai Indians scored 157 runs for loss of eight wickets. In reply, Chennai chased down the target after losing three wickets in 18.1 overs. Ajinkya Rahane was the star in this match, scoring fastest fifty in IPL 2023 (61 runs off 27 balls), while Rituraj Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 40 runs. The biggest reason behind Mumbai's defeat was the flop show of their batsmen.

MI's Suryakumar Yadav has been struggling with lean form across formats (ODIS, TestS and T20Is). Yadav was included in Indian squad for ODI series against Australia due to Shreyas Iyer's unaviliablity. However, he registered three back-to-back golden ducks in all three ODIs. Fans hoped Yadav would return to form in IPL, but the wait continues. In the first two matches for MI, Suryakumar scored 15 and 1.

Suryakumar Yadav could only score just a single run in Mumbai's last IPL 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings. The delivery on which SKY got dismissed was initially declared wide by on-field umpire after which Dhoni took a review and Suryakumar was forced to return to the pavilion. Surya's early dismissal at a crucial phase in the match was one of the reasons behind MI's loss vs CSK.

After the match got over, MS Dhoni was seen having a chat with Suryakumar in Wankhede. Here's the video:

"The senior guys need to step up starting with me. We know the nature of IPL, when the tournament starts we need to get some momentum and when you don't it is tough. Just two games and all is not lost still. If you win, you can win a few on the trot and when you lose it is hard to come out of that momentum. Hopefully, things start to change. Things we speak in the changeroom has not worked in the middle. We know we had a very disappointing last season, but we always start afresh, even when we won the 5 trophies, we never thought we won it last year," he said after the match.
