Even though there is no official confirmation yet, reports suggest that the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) could see franchises have Rs 100 Crore as their purse at the mini-auction set to be held in December this year. The other big change that could be seen at this year's mini-auction is that franchises might be able to make as many retention as they like with only the remaining players heading into the auction pool.

Meanwhile, it is being reported that the organizers are planning to have the auction in December and will finalise a date keeping in mind that it doesn't clash with the Christmas holidays. Several logistical issues are in front of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) if they want to have the auction in that time of the year especially with regards to hotel booking as it conincides with the festive and wedding season in India. A final call on the date of the IPL auction is likely to be taken after the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

"The focus is now on World Cup and once every detail is taken care of, we will move towards IPL. We will decide the date after the World Cup. It is most likely in the third or fourth week of December. But it will only be discussed at the IPL GC meeting later on. It will not be on Christmas Eve for sure. We will try to look at a comfortable date for all," a BCCI source reportedly told Inside Sport.

Meanwhile, the Inside Sport report has also claimed that Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kochi and Kolkata are frontrunners to host the IPL 2024 mini-auction. In the previous auction, every franchise had a total purse of 95 crore and a further increase in that does not come as a big suprise given that the bidding war was a successful event with even fans taking a keen interest in the competition.
