IPL 2023 start date: The 2023 edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) will start in the fourth week of March, as per a report by Cricbuzz. This clearly shows that the dates will remain identical to the 2022 edition. Just before the season begins, there will be a mini-auction, the venue of which has not been decided yet, and most likely, December 16 is the date that has been finalized.

The purse of each team for the IPL 2023 auction will be INR 95 crore, previously it was INR 90 crore. If a player leaves or a franchise trades a player, then accordingly, the amount in the team's purse will increase. The team's purse has increased by INR 5 crore more than last year, so it has to be seen how the teams spend this time in the mini IPL.

Meanwhile, BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly has already confirmed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be returning to its original home and away format from the upcoming season. Ever since Covid played spoilsport, IPL has been held at only a few venues as the matches were played behind closed doors across three venues in UAE which are Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi.

In the IPL 2021, the matches were played across four venues — Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Chennai. With Covid cases under control now, the cash-rich league will return to its original format in which every team will play one home and one away match.

“The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all ten teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” stated the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

IPL 2023 is expected to be special in many ways. It is believed that IPL 2023 will be Mahendra Singh Dhoni's last IPL edition with Chennai Super Kings. Apart from this, the much-awaited women's IPL will likely get underway in early January, next year.
