New Delhi: Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by five wickets on Saturday in the 69th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Mumbai ended a forgetful IPL 2022 campaign with a win over Delhi and with this win, they also shattered DC's hopes of qualifying for IPL 2022 playoffs, while Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made it to the playoffs. Bangalore became the fourth team to reach the playoffs, before them Gujarat Titans (GT), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have qualified for the knockout matches.
Batting first in this match, Delhi set a target of 160 runs for Mumbai, who chased down the target with 5 balls remaining. Mumbai was not off to a good start as skipper Rohit Sharma returned back to the pavilion after scoring two runs off 12 balls. Virat Kohli, who was attending the special screening of MI vs DC match, was left stunned seeing Rohit getting dismissed. Virat's reaction to the dismissal went viral on social media.
RCB players and support staff members were all watching the Mumbai vs Delhi IPL clash as their chances of making it to the IPL playoffs depended on the match result. A win for Delhi over Mumbai would have helped them knockout RCB to become the fourth team to reach IPL 2022 playoffs.
IPL 2022 Eliminator will be played between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore on 25th May. The winning team will advance to Qualifier 2 and will face the team that loses in Qualifier 1. The Eliminator between Lucknow and Bangalore will be played at the Eden Gardens.
