New Delhi: Controversy erupted after former Indian cricket team skipper Sunil Gavaskar made an unwanted comment during Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR) match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match on Friday. Gavaskar has been put under the scanner by some unhappy fans who thought the veteran's comment on Rajasthan Royals Shimron Hetmyer was totally uncalled for.

Shimron Hetmyer was making his comeback for Rajasthan in the match against Chennai as he had to leave the bio-bubble to be with his pregnant wife in Guyana. On May 10, the West Indies star was blessed with a baby.

Chasing 151 for the win, Rajasthan was struggling at 112/5 when Hetmyer came out to bat against Chennai. Then Gavaskar said," Hetmyer's wife delivered, will Hetmyer deliver for the Royals now?"

Fans on Twitter were left furious with Gavaskar's comment and they didn't back out from expressing the same on the social media platform.

Batting first, CSK had set a target of 151 runs for RR on the back of Moeen Ali's 93-run knock. Chahal and Mecoy took two wickets each for Rajasthan. Rajasthan chased down the target with 2 balls remaining. For RR, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a half-century, while Ashwin played an unbeaten innings of 40 runs in 23 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes. Rajasthan secured 2nd spot in IPL points table with this win, and will now play Qualifier 1 against Gujarat Titans on May 24.
