New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has been reprimanded for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL 2022 Eliminator match played at Kolkata's iconic Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

“Mr Karthik admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction,” the IPL said in a statement.

“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding,” it added.

The official statement issued in a media advisory by IPL did not reveal or explain the reason for the breach. During LSG vs RCB IPL 2022 Eliminator match, Karthik notched up a fiery 23-ball 37 and stitched a solid unbeaten 92-run partnership off just 41 balls with 'centurion' Rajat Patidar for fifth wicket. Patidar, the uncapped RCB player playing his debut season, scored an unbeaten 112 off 54 balls, with help of seven sixes and 12 fours.

Karthik has done pretty well for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2022 as he has been in superb batting form throughout the tournament. The veteran has returned to team India after three long years. He last played for national team in the 2019 World Cup. Karthik has been named in Indian team for five-match T20 series against South Africa starting on June 9.

Karthik's stellar performance in IPL 2022 pushed the selectors to pick him in team India for South Africa series. Upon selection, an emotional Karthik praised the team management of RCB for always supporting him in his role as a finisher.
