New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, in a shocking move, has decided to step down as captain and has requested former CSK skipper MS Dhoni to lead the franchise.

Jadeja's big decision to step down as CSK captain in the middle of the season comes after his team, the second most successful team in IPL history, lost 6 out of 8 matches this season. Chennai Super Kings in their announcement asserted Jadeja wanted to focus on his game and hence veteran MS Dhoni has accepted to 'lead CSK in the larger interest'.

“MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,” read the CSK statement.

Apart from CSK's poor form, Jadeja has also struggled in the tournament, scoring just 112 runs in 92 balls at a strike rate of 121.7, while taking five wickets in eight innings at an economy rate of 8.19.

Ravindra Jadeja was made CSK skipper after MS Dhoni announced stepping down from captaincy duty just a few days ahead of IPL 2022. Under Jadeja's captaincy, CSK has lost 6 out of 8 games. The franchise defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore to secure their first win this season. Their second win came against Mumbai Indians.

In the IPL 2022 Points Table, Chennai are currently placed bottom at 9th position.

Chennai, under MS Dhoni's captaincy, will play its ninth match of IPL 2022 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
