New Delhi: BMW has showcased the i4 electric sedan in India ahead of its May 26 launch. The i4 would be the first all-electric luxury sedan and also a more accessible luxury electric car in terms of its pricing and positioning. This is the electric version of the 4 Series Gran Coupe and is based on the 3 Series architecture. The i4 is quite a stunning-looking car while the example shown here is not the final India spec car.
The i4 would be a CBU and would be fully imported. There are two versions of the i4 including a two-motor all-wheel-drive version or a rear-wheel drive-only single motor version. Either way, it is quite fast with at least 340bhp on offer while the more powerful version will make near 550bhp.
Importantly in terms of range, the i4 will have a range of 590km which is quite impressive for its size and performance. A Level 2 Wallbox charger can fully charge the car in 8 hours.
In terms of features, the i4 has a 12.3-inch information display and 14.9-inch main display plus three-zone climate control, 16 speaker audio system plus a heads-up display, and more.
The final specifications of the car are yet to be revealed and would be known at launch obviously but the i4 could potentially be an important car in terms of volumes since currently, it will have no competition in the Indian market since no other electric sedan exists currently at this segment. The i4 also gets EV-specific design details like a blanked-off grille since it does not have an engine.
