New Delhi: The 15t edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is set to start on March 26th. The first match of the tournament will be played between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders, a report by ANI stated.


"Yes, KKR and CSK will play the tournament opener on March 26. Maharashtra government has also given permission for having a green channel for all the teams and this will help them avoid traffic when they leave their hotel for matches or practice," Sources in the know of developments told ANI.

Although the BCCI is yet to release the full schedule, sources privy to the developments have confirmed to ANI that CSK vs KKR is going to be this year's IPL opener. The source also said that 25 percent of the spectators will be allowed to watch the match inside the stadium.


"25 percent crowd will be allowed for the initial matches and the capacity can be increased after the Maharashtra government gives its go ahead," the source added.


Interestingly, the final match of IPL 2021 was played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. CSK became champions for the fourth time after defeating KKR by 27 runs.


Keeping in mind the current Covid-19 situation in India, BCCI has decided to host the entire tournament in Maharashtra. 55 matches of the league stage are to be played in Mumbai and 15 matches in Pune.
