New Delhi: In what comes as a huge setback for two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), their senior opener Ajinkya Rahane has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Cricbuzz reported. Rahane had suffered a hamstring injury in Kolkata's IPL 2022 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and did not take the field in the second innings. Ajinkya Rahane has suffered a serious Grade III hamstring injury and will be out of Kolkata Knight Riders' bio bubble on Monday, reported Cricbuzz. So far in IPL 2022, Rahane has scored 133 runs in seven matches for Kolkata.

Sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told Cricbuzz that Ajinkya Rahane will be reporting to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, where he may require more than four weeks of rehab. Apart from IPL 2022, Rahane will most likely be ruled out of India's tour of England due to this injury.

Due to his poor form, the former vice-captain of the Indian Test team Ajinkya Rahane has already lost his place in the Indian Test team playing XI. He and another out-0f-favor Indian Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara were replaced by Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer in the Test team.

Pujara has recently shown signs of making a comeback in the Indian Test squad by scoring runs in county cricket but Rahane's return seems difficult from here. BCCI, most likely, will announce the team for India's tour of England in next few days and the national squad will then leave for England on 16th June.

The BCCI selection committee, led by Chetan Sharma, is expected to pick two teams this week - one for the England tour and the other for the home series against South Africa.
