New Zealand star batsman Kane Williamson, who was out of the first two games in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) due to an elbow injury, is recovering well. Williamson hopes to regain full match fitness within a week.
The 30-year-old Williamson, who played a key role in the Sunrisers' middle-order, suffered an injury to his left elbow due to which he was ruled out of the domestic ODI series against Bangladesh in March before the IPL 2021. However, the New Zealand captain said on Friday that he is recovering well from the injury.
"You know I have been focussed to get pain free as quickly as possible and we are certainly tracking really nicely and hoping to be fit and ready within the week," Williamson said in a video posted by Sunrisres Hyderabad from its official twitter handle.
"It's been a bit of a balance between practice and rehab and sort of things. But for the most part, the progression is been really good. So pretty optimistic about being close to full fitness very soon."
Williamson had scored 317 runs in 11 innings for the Sunrisers in the last season of the IPL in the UAE and played a key role in helping his team secure a place in the playoffs. Sunrisers have lost both their opening matches of the current season of the IPL due to middle-order failure. Sunrisers will take on five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians on Saturday.
