Even before the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 was indefinitely postponed due to rising cases of Covid-19, Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul had to miss a game due to his operation of Appendicitis as he was taken to hospital after he complained of severe abdomen pain.
KL Rahul missed the match against Delhi Capitals, the IPL match which turned out to be last before the T20 tournament was postponed indefinitely.

Just before the official announcement was made by the BCCI, KL Rahul’s father, Dr. K.N. Lokesh, who is a professor of the Civil Engineering department in the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NIT-K), received a bizarre e-mail from a student.
The screenshot of the mail has been uploaded on Twitter. The mail reads, “Hello sir, I am Rahul Kumawat from 2nd year mining branch. I have a doubt that KL Rahul sir will join IPL soon or he just left the IPL 2021 because of his appendix operation. I am his big fan sir.”
Punjab Kings however, was not in very good form in this year's IPL. The franchise played eight matches, and managed to win only three games. The team was at the sixth position in the IPL 2021 points table with 6 points. In such a situation, Punjab Kings had received blow due to KL Rahul's shocking exit.
Even though Rahul's team Punjab Kings could not perform brilliantly in the league, but he was spot on with the bat and was scoring runs fiercely. KL Rahul is second in the Orange Cap race after Shikhar Dhawan with 331 runs.
