New Delhi: Defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) suffered a four-wicket loss against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday. After restricting Mumbai to 129 runs in 20 overs, Delhi won the match by scoring 132 runs in 19.1 overs for the loss of six wickets.
After loss against Delhi, Mumbai's hopes of making it to the playoffs have suffered a major setback. The Blue Brigade will now rely on other teams to qualify for the playoffs as they have 10 points from 12 matches with just 5 wins. Mumbai Indians also have the lowest net run rate among the four teams who have 10 points in the points table.
The official twitter handle of Mumbai Indians on Sunday took to Twitter to share a video of their dressing room, in which the team members gathered together after heart-breaking loss against Delhi Capitals.
In the video, Mumbai Indians can be seen honoring Suryakumar Yadav and fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile with the dressing room players of the match award. Suryakumar is seen getting a badge from head coach Mahela Jayawardene and Coulter-Nile by mentor Sachin Tendulkar.
Talking about the match, Suryakumar scored 33 runs off 26 balls against Delhi, in which he hit two fours and as many sixes. Apart from them, Coulter-Nile picked one wicket for 19 runs in his spell Mumbai will now have to win both the remaining matches to reach playoffs, and their chances will also depend on the results of the other teams win-loss and their net run rate.
