Kolkata Knight Riders' star batsman Rahul Tripathi has been fined by the Pune Police on Friday, May 28, for allegedly violating the COVID-19 lockdown norms. Rahul was last seen playing for KKR in the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Apart from being a good batsman, Rahul Tripathi is known for his discipline, punctuality and friendly nature. His KKR teammate Pat Cummins, in an interview, had also said how friendly Rahul is and that he always enjoys the success of his teammates. Therefore, the news of Tripathi being fined for not following COVID-19 protocol may come as a surprise to those who know him personally.
According to a report by the Indian Express, the right-handed batsman was fined for driving a car without wearing a mask in the Kondhwa area of Pune. As per the report, Tripathi was driving a car without wearing a mask at Khadi Machine Chowk in Kondhwa on Friday afternoon.
The 30-year-old player has been fined Rs 500 for not following Covid-19 norms, as per the report. A receipt has also been issued by the Police for the same. Senior police officer of Kondhwa police station Sardar Patil said, "Cricketer Rahul Tripathi was not wearing a face mask and was driving without any reason during the lockdown. Some other people were also riding in his car."
A strict lockdown has been imposed in Pune to curb cases of Coronavirus. Fines are being imposed against those who are violating the lockdown. The state government has now extended COVID-19 restrictions till June 15, due to rising cases of Covid-19.
