Nortje to finish off with his spell here!
He bowls some quick short balls and keeps it tight to not give any room to Dhoni and Jadeja! Just 6 runs from the second-last over! Looks like CSK is playing now for the Net Run Rate (NRR) but for the NRR to be effective, don't they need to win games?
CSK are 127/5 after 19 overs and need 49 runs from 6 balls to win.

Avesh Khan on the move and with the increasing run-rate, CSK need to target him as soon as possible! Just 2 runs off th first two balls but Plessis makes room to place it between deep square...just the 5th four of tonight's game while chasing 176 to win in 20 overs!!! Strange batting by CSK batters against spinners so far...they are trying to go big against spinners by hitting them against the spin! After the strategic timeout, Patel bowls the 10th over which means all remaining three overs by Rabada will be bowled in the last 10 overs. Gaikwad gets run-out on 5...miscommunication leads to tragedy! Pant is quick behind the stumps to get him clean run-out (3 runs and one wicket from this over). He carries top edge but doesn't get carried to the fielder who almost dived to take a catch. Just 3 runs from the over. CSK are 44/2 after 9 overs and need 132 runs in 66 balls.

Nortje bowls the final over of the POWERPLAY! Starts with a wide and his next attempt to get his line right is a disaster too as du Plessis makes the use of his pace to deflect the ball for a boundary! M Vijay too tries to go big against Nortje, tries to hit a big shot over mid-off but is hit on inside half of the bat! Back-to-back dot balls puts already frustrated Vijay (10 runs) under pressure and he comes up with a wild swing of the bat but only manages to give a catch to midwicket. CSK are 34/2 after 6 overs.
Spinner Axar Patel gets another over inside the Powerplay and he gets one more success against Watson (14 runs)! 6th wicket of Watson under 60 balls. Big batsman Faf du Plessis is the next man in. 4 runs and one wicket from Axar's over. CSK are 26/1 after 5 overs.
Four overs four bowlers! Avesh Khan bowls the 4th one! Watson welcomes him with a 4 off the very first ball by beating the fielder at mid-on. The next ball is a dot as Watson fails to beat the fielder and then gives the strike to M Vijay with a single. Vijay too takes a single and Watson gets to play the last ball who sends the ball flying over mid-on for a HUGE SIX! 12 runs from this over.
CSK are 22/0 after 4 overs.
Nortje to Bowl now after that great start from Kagiso Rabada! Good captaincy from Iyer! Beauty from Nortje who makes the most of seam movement as the ball goes between the bat and pad but misses the stumps. Watson gets DROPPED in the 3rd ball of the over as Shaw fluffs a sitter. Just one run from the last three balls and the entire over infact!

Axar is bowling some short and flat devilries at the moment! Vijay decides to swing his bat hard off the last ball of the over to hit a FOUR over mid-on! 7 runs from the over.
CSK are 9/0 after 2 overs.
We are back with the chase! Shane Watson and Murali Vijay will again open the innings for Chennai Super Kings! Only two wickets down in the 17th over and still DC have managed to amass only 146 runs!! Hazlewood bowls the 18th over. Looks like especially Pant is taking very few risks and Iyer is the one playing some hard-hitting strokes! Finally, he puts a lot of power in his shot for a brilliant cover-drive for four...later lofts the ball over covers to hit second boundary of the over! 11 runs from it. DC are 157/2 after 18 overs.
Over number 17 bowled by D Chahar his last over of the day! Both DC batters looking intentful but D Chahar is exceptional with his line and length! Last 5 overs have been the game-changing overs for any team in the IPL. Just when Chahar looked so good he bowls a poor delivery...full toss on the pad and Iyer plays a short-arm shot! 12 runs from Chahar's last over! DC are 146/2 after 17 overs.
Sam Curran back into the attack after the strategic timeout! Chawla getting two wickets has pulled back Chennai into the game. Meanwhile, Curran was doing well with ball to stop the run flow but gives a freebie (4 runs) with an overthrow! A mix of yorkers and good length deliveries has pushed DC batters back and they really cant do much with it. DC are 134/2 after 16 overs.
Chahar, who has two more overs left, bowls his third over of the game.Just singles from his first three balls. Pant goes big to put the pressure back on CSK paceman...Pant finally breaks free by playing an unorthodox extra-cover drive to get a boundary.4 more runs from the next balls to end the over. 30 ball and 8 wickets remaining in the game! DC were 124/2 after 15 overs.
Pant welcomes Jadeja with a four! to start the 14th over!! Pant gets down on a knee to smash Jadeja for a four to the long leg boundary. Excellent comeback from Jadeja who ensures to not leak much runs in the remaining deliveries of his over. DC were 113/2 after 14 overs.
Aggressive from DC to bring in Pant early on number three against CSK's spin attack! Maybe to keep the right-left batting combo going. Ravindra Jadeja bowls the 12th over and gets hit for a single boundary. 8 runs from it. DC were 102/1 after 12 overs.

OUT ! Chawla continues to bowl. In-form Shaw gets super excited and jumps down the track to hit a big shot but gets an inside edge of his bat and the ball rolls onto to Dhoni behind the wickets, who collects the ball to stump the DC opener! DC are 105/1 after 13 overs
Sir Jadeja back into the attack! The first three devilries are good length deliveries and he manages to keep a grip over on-strike Dhawan. However, the star opener shows he is not all slog but some class too...plays a beautiful drive to get a boundary and put the pressure on Jadeja. Shaw joins the part and sweeps the CSK spinner for a flat six on the leg side. DC were 88/0 after 10 overs.

Chawla to continue and Dhawan jumps out of his crease to hit a four...lofts this one back over Chawla's head. The veteran leggie gets his revenge
Dhawan tries a sweep shot to go over the point ring this time but missed it completely and gets LBW out for 35! Rishabh Pant is the next man in.
DC are 94/1 after 11 overs
Terrific batting from Shaw at Dubai!!!Chawla has been handed the ball and starts the over by bowling a flighted delivery, looks like a googly almost. Shaw later makes room for himself, jumps out of the crease and drives two devilries for boundaries to put pressure on Chawla. DC manages to score 73/0 after 9 overs. 11 runs from it!
MS Dhoni goes level with Suresh Raina as most capped IPL player..193rd appearance for the legend
After the end of powerplay, the ball has been given to Chawla now! The first over after powerplay is considered to be the easiest over for the bowling team as the field restrictions are lifted. Shaw opens up his arms by hitting two fours to Chawla and gets the much-needed good over for DC.

Jadeja gets to bowl the first over of the game and he commits a big blunder by giving Dhawan a delivery right in his slot! Gabbar slogs it over mid-wicket for a big SIX! He gets the life-line he needed and finds gap again to hit another four by beating the deep mid-wicket fielder. DC are 62/0 after 8 overs
Deepak Chahar has been brought back to bowl his second over! The field setup by Dhoni looks really great as both openers are struggling to find gaps...also not to forget the disciplined bowling from CSK bowling attack! Pressure continues to build on both DC openers now! DC are 36/0 after 6 overs.
Hazlewood almost got Shaw's wicket in the second ball of his over...Shaw smashed it hard but a mis-hit from him goes past mid-on but has got enough power behind it to clear the fielders and land in the safe zone! DC openers manage just deal in singles in the next few balls to end the fifth over. DC are 30/0 after 5 overs.
Sam Curran continues with his spell...bowls the first poor delivery of his over and it results in a four off Shaw! Gets back to regulation swing and keeps it simple. Shaw has had enough of his failed attempts to find gaps and this time (4th ball of the over) he stands tall, goes hard against the delivery and clears the field with ease. DC are 27/0 after 4 overs.
Aussie star paceman Josh Hazlewood replaces D Chahar in the attack and its after a long time Chahar has been taken off after just one over from him. The experience of Hazlewood is benefiting him at the moment. Focuses on short length deliveries, onto the pads. Good move by MS Dhoni to bring in the Aussie speedster early on as he gives away just four runs from his over. DC are 15/0 after 3 overs.
Sam Curran bowls the second over and nice swing away is not making it easy for DC openers to hit boundaries. Sam Curran started the over really well with two great swinging deliveries. He manages to beat Dhawan with speed and swing as well. Curran ends the over with a brilliant bouncer and gives away just 2 runs from it. DC are 11/0 after 2 overs.
It's all about to star here at Dubai!!! The young Delhi Capitals take on experienced Chennai Super Kings! Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan are out to open the innings for DC...Deepak Chahar has been handed the new ball by Dhoni. He's getting help from the pitch with the new ball and the ball is swinging at the moment. Brilliant timing from Shaw helps him get back-to-back boundaries. CSK vs DC Head to Head stats

In the IPL, 21 matches have been played between Chennai and Delhi so far, in which 15 times Chennai has won and Delhi has won 6 times. Head-to-head stats make Chennai look stronger than Delhi, but Mahi will not make the mistake of underestimating young captain Shreyas Iyer's team.

Background

CSK vs DC HIGHLIGHTS: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) win toss and opt to bat first against Delhi Capitals. While CSK head into the game after suffering a 16-run defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals registered a thrilling win over Kings Eleven Punjab in their season opener.

CSK have some batting woes to address with only Proteas import Faf Du Plessis being the consistent scorer in both their games so far. Sam Curran has done a good job with pinch hitting but the other frontline batsman have failed to deliver ..CSK would look see Dhoni bat in the top 5 after he received a lot of flak for coming down the order in both the games and leaving the chase against too late

Delhi too have been up and down with the bat with their top order failing against Punjab. It was a late flourish from Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis which helped DC post a comeback into the game after the Punjab bowlers made inroads into their top order.

Both teams are plagued with injuries and would look to tinker their playing combination yet again. While Ambati Rayadu is not certain to play the next few games, Delhi are also troubled by injuries to seamer Ishant Sharma and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin

CSK bowling has also come under the scanner with seamer Lungi Ngidi and Piyush Chawla going for plenty against Rajasthan Royals. So we might see one of them being dropped.

Meanwhile, the DC bowlers had a decent outing against Kings Eleven Punjab. However, the only major concern for them remains the injury to ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who picked a couple of wickets in his very first over, but had to go off the field later

CSK have enjoyed their rivalry against DC in the IPL, winning 15 of the 21 games. However, every game is a new start and both teams will spare no efforts to win the battle later in the evening at Dubai

Here are the full squads for the Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Capitals match later in the day
