London [U.K], March 17 (ANI):Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova has pulled out of next week's Miami Open, after suffering an injury to her left forearm.
Announcing her withdrawal from the tournament, Sharapova said that she is quite sad to miss one of her favourite tournaments.
"I am really sorry that I have to withdraw from one of my favorite tournaments with my left forearm injury. I am doing everything possible to return to the tour as soon as possible," the WTA quoted Sharapova, as saying.
Meanwhile, Miami Open Tournament Director James Blake said that injuries are the part and parcel of the game and that they hope for Sharapova's quick recovery.
"I know how much Maria wanted to play Miami this year, so I can imagine her disappointment. We were looking forward to seeing her play Wednesday, but unfortunately injuries are part of the game. We hope she recovers quickly and is back on the court soon," he said.
Sharapova's withdrawal comes after her disappointing campaign at the Indian Wells Masters in California this week, where she slumped to a straight-sets defeat at the hands of rising Japanese star Naomi Osaka.
The defeat came after she withdrew from the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships due to a forearm strain. (ANI)
