Indian Wrestlers at Commonwealth Games 2022: The Indian wrestling team continued gold medals rush on Saturday after dominating the proceedings of Friday across categories. The Indian wrestling contingent has so far bagged five medals on Day 9, Saturday at CWG 2022. Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Dahiya and Naveen Sihag produced a dominating show to win gold in their respective weight categories. Pooja Gehlot defeated Scotland's wrestler to clinch a bronze in the women's 59 kg freestyle category. Pooja Sihag clinched the women’s 76kg freestyle bronze in Birmingham. The Indian wrestling medal tally now stands at a total of 11 in CWG 2022.
Ravi Dahiya, Vinesh Phogat and Naveen Sihag continued India's impressive show in wrestling at the 2022 Commonwealth Games by adding three gold medals to the country's medal tally on Saturday.
India's Ravi Kumar Dahiya defeated reigning CWG medalist 10-0 to win Gold in men’s 57kg category. It is the 10th gold medal for India and 6th in wrestling at CWG 2022. Wrestler Naveen defeated Pakistan's Muhammad Sharif 9-0 in the men's 74kg category to win India's 6th wrestling Gold medal at CWG.
India's Vinesh Phogat won the gold medal in the women's 53kg wrestling event at the Commonwealth Games. Ravi Dahiya and Pooja Gehlot continued India's stellar performance in wrestling at CWG with gold medals in men's 57kg category and bronze in women's 50kg respectively. Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Ravi won the gold medal in the 57kg final by defeating Nigeria's Welson Abkwenimo by technical superiority.
Commonwealth Games 2014 and 2018 gold medalist Vinesh Phogat won the gold medal by defeating Chamodaya Keshani of Sri Lanka (win by fall) in the women's 53kg final. Vinesh scored four points by first taking down Chamodaya in a one-sided match and then attained a pin down over her to complete a hat-trick of gold medal wins in the Commonwealth Games.
