New Delhi: U-19 World Cup 2022's highest wicket-taker for India, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, made his international debut on Wednesday in the series opener of the three-match T20 series between India and West Indies. The leggie got a chance to play for the national team due to his excellent performance in Indian Premier League (IPL) and domestic cricket.

BCCI took to Twitter to post a video in which Bishnoi can be seen receiving his T20 International debut cap from fellow spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

Bishnoi was a part of franchise Punjab in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the IPL 2022 mega auction, the young spinner was bought by new IPL team Lucknow Super Giants for IPL 2022.

Ravi Bishnoi was one of the most sought after uncapped players ahead of this year's IPL auction. Several franchisees had shown keen interest in buying him in the auction. He was part of the Indian Under 19 team in World Cup 2020 and was one of the consistent performers for a side that failed to win the final.

Talking about the Ind vs WI 1st T20 International, team India won the toss and opted to bowl against West Indies in Kolkata's iconic Eden Gardens.

At the time of the toss, India skipper Rohit said: "We are going to bowl first. I don't want to comment on the pitch as it has played differently every time. We have to prepare ourselves with one eye on Australia. We have to keep ticking the boxes. They are going to challenge us. We are playing with five batters, one all-rounder, and two spinners, Ravi Bishnoi is making his debut."
