New Delhi: India vs West Indies 1st ODI will be played today i.e. on 22nd July at Queens Park Oval, Port of Spain Stadium in Trinidad. Ahead of the senior opener, Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan has given an update on Ravindra Jadeja's fitness. The all-rounder was reportedly having problems due to his knee before the ODI series opener against West Indies, it was being reported that due to the knee issue, Jadeja could also miss the ODI series.

Team India would not like to lose an experienced all-rounder like Jadeja due to injury ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 later this year. Shikhar Dhawan has given an update on Jadeja's injury before the Ind vs WI 1st ODI.

"Right now, he has a bit of a niggle so we don't know whether he will be ready or not for the first ODI,” said Dhawan at a pre-match press conference.

Talking about the overall bowling combination, Dhawan said, “Other than that, Siraj is there, Prasidh is there, and we have got amazing fast bowling. In spin, Axar Patel is there and Yuzvendra Chahal is there, we have a good bunch of bowling unit so it will be very impactful."

Dhawan is leading Team India for the second time in the absence of senior players.  Earlier, he also took charge of the team during the Sri Lanka tour.  On the question of captaincy, the left-handed batsman said, "I am very excited to lead the team.  Whenever I get a chance to lead the youth, I share my experiences with them.  Everyone has talent, but it is also about the mental aspect and that is why I share my experiences."

Team India had to do the net session closed doors for the first ODI due to rain. Dhawan said about this that the players have just come from England.  With less net sessions, players will feel more refreshed.
