New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced the squad for the upcoming T20 and Test series against Sri Lanka.


In what comes as a big announcement, senior opener Rohit Sharma has been named team India's Test captain for the upcoming Sri Lanka series, while Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been rested for the T20 series.


India will lock horns with Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series, starting from February 24. After the T20I series, India will face Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series, starting from March 4.


Opener KL Rahul has been ruled out of Ind vs SL series due to injury he sustained in the ODI series against West Indies. Jasprit Bumrah has been named vice-captain of India's T20 and Test squad.






"Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been rested for the final T20 against West Indies so that they can have more time for rest on the advice of our medical staff. They have also been rested for the T20 series against Sri Lanka but will be playing in the Test series," said Chetan Sharma, Chairman of  All India Senior Selection Committee, during a virtual press conference.


"Shardul Thakur has been rested for both the formats against Sri Lanka but will be available for the third T20I against West Indies tomorrow," he added.
