Kapil Dev on Rohit Sharma fitness: Questions are now being raised on Rohit Sharma's capabilities as captain because of his moderate success in major ICC tournaments. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) picked Rohit Sharma as Virat Kohli's replacement for leading the national team in all three formats. However, the senior batter hasn't performed as per the expectations. Team India had a disappointing run both in Asia Cup and ICC T20 World Cup, last year. Also, it is being predicted that Rohit might soon be removed as India's T20 captain for Hardik Pandya's appointment.
Meanwhile, 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev feels there is a big question mark over Rohit Sharma's fitness.
"There's no shortcoming in Rohit Sharma. He has everything but I personally think, there is a huge question mark over his fitness. Is he fit enough? Because a captain should be someone who motivates the other players to get fitter, the teammates should feel proud of their captain," the ex-India captain said in an interaction with ABP News.
"I can say with surety that there is a huge doubt over Rohit's fitness. There has been a lot of criticism that he hasn't scored that many runs since he has become captain, I kind of agree with it but I don't think there is any issue with his cricketing skills. He is a very successful cricketer. If he gets fitter, the entire team will rally around him," he added.
Once the Ind vs SL T20 series gets over, team India will play three ODIs against Sri Lanka after the T20 series. Star players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah are returning in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. With this series, team India will start preparations for the ODI World Cup.
