New Delhi: Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team will lock horns with Sri Lanka in the three-match T20 International series starting from 24th February. In what comes as a big setback for team India, pace bowler Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka due to a muscle strain. Deepak had sustained this injury during the last T20I against West Indies.

"He has been ruled out of the series and will complete his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy," an official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told PTI.

Along with this, the official also said that the team has not demanded any other player as a replacement for Deepak Chahar. "The team has not asked for any substitute as the vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah has already joined the team," the official told PTI.

It remains to be seen whether Deepak Chahar will gain full fitness for the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is expected to start in the last week of March. Chahar was bought by Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings for a whopping Rs 14 crore in IPL 2022 mega auction.
