New Delhi: Indian cricket team's young off-spinner Washington Sundar has been ruled out of Ind vs SA ODI series after testing Coronavirus positive during the camp in Bengaluru.

Sundar was to travel to Cape Town on Wednesday along with the Indian contingent for the ODI series, starting January 19. However, him testing Covid positive led to All India Senior Selection Committee naming Jayant Yadav as his replacement, who is already in South Africa with the Test squad.

"Sundar was supposed to travel to Cape Town with the ODI members on Wednesday and join the rest of the squad ahead of the ODI series starting January 19th," stated an official BCCI release.

The selection committee also named pacer Navdeep Saini in India's ODI squad touring South Africa, as a back-up for Mohammad Siraj, who is still recovering from his hamstring injury which he sustained in the second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg.

Washington Sundar missing out the ODI series against Proteas come as a big blow for the Indian squad as all-rounder like Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja already aren’t part of the squad touring South Africa.

The first two matches of the ODI series are scheduled to be played on January 19 and 21 at Boland Park in Paarl, while the third ODI match will be played at Newlands in Cape Town on January 23.
