India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2022 match: Pakistan cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of the Asia Cup 2022. Pakistan's key bowler Shaheen Afridi has been ruled out of the T20 tournament due to injury. Shaheen injured his right knee while fielding in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. After the latest scan report, the Medical Advisory Committee of PCB has advised Shaheen Afridi to rest for 4-6 weeks. Apart from the Asia Cup, Shaheen Afridi will also not be able to play in the seven-match home T20 series against England but he is expected to return to the field ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
“I have spoken with Shaheen and he is understandably upset with the news, but he is brave young man who has vowed to come back strongly to serve his country and team. Although he has made progress during his rehabilitation in Rotterdam, it is now clear he will require more time and is likely to return to competitive cricket in October," said Pakistan team's doctor Soomro in an official statement released by the Pakistan Cricket board (PCB).
“PCB’s Sports & Exercise Medicine Department will be working closely with the player over the coming weeks to ensure his safe return to competitive cricket," he added.
The last time India played against Pakistan was back in the T20 World Cup last year. Shaheen Afridi had then played an important role in Pakistan's win against India. Shaheen had put his team on top right at the beginning of the match as he gave a double blow to the Indian team by dismissing both openers, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. Later he also dismissed Virat Kohli. Thanks to the brilliant performance of Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets.
