New Delhi: The world is divided over team India skipper Virat Kohli's dismissal during India vs New Zealand 2nd Test at Mumbai. Kohli was given LBW off Ajaz Patel's delivery. Some fans believe that Kohli was given out rightly, but ex-India batter Wasim Jaffer and Parthiv Patel think the Indian skipper was not out.
A delivery from Patel caught Kohli right in front of the stumps. After the on-field umpire adjudged Kohli LBW out, he reviewed it thinking that the ball hit the bat first and then the pad. As it turns out, the third umpire decided to stay with the on-field decision, and Kohli was given out.
While announcing his decision, the third umpire said that there is "no conclusive evidence" to give Virat Kohli not-out. As the Indian captain walked back to the pavilion, he smashed his bat on the boundary hoarding.
Reacting to Kohli's controversial dismissal, Wasim Jaffer said the ball had hit the bat first and then the pad.
"That was bat first in my opinion. And I understand the 'conclusive evidence' part. But I think this was an instance where common sense should have prevailed. But as they say common sense is not so common. Feel for Virat Kohli," Jaffer wrote on Twitter.
Parthiv Patel also backed Kohli and shared a post on Instagram,"#Kohli decision was definitely not out. Yes, NZ has made a terrific comeback in this session but they also benefited from ‘VIRAT’ LBW verdict," he wrote on Instagram.
Coming back to the Ind vs NZ Mumbai Test, India won the toss and elected to bat first. Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal put on an 80-run partnership for the first wicket, but after that Team India lost wickets of Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat quickly. Pujara and Virat were dismissed for zero, while Shubman played an innings of 44 runs.
At Stumps on Day 1, India had managed to put themselves on top by scoring 221/4, courtesy a fluent ton from Mayank Agarwal.
