Over 5,000 crore bets have been placed on the final match of the Champions Trophy to be held between India and New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday. According to NDTV, quoting sources, India is the favourite team of international bookies.

The report also mentions quoting sources that many of the bookies are linked to the underworld. The D Company of Dawood Ibrahim’s gang is involved in the betting on the cricket match.

The report further mentions that at least five big bookies have been arrested during the Champions Trophy by Delhi Police's Crime Branch. They placed bets on the semi-finals. The probe in the matter has led to the investigation reaching Dubai.


In one case, two bookies identified as Parveen Kochhar and Sanjay Kumar were arrested for betting on the India-Australia Champions Trophy semi-final match. Both of them were caught while placing live bets using their laptops and mobile phones. Several electronic devices and items used in betting have been recovered.


Kochhar bought a master ID from a website called lucky.com. He used it to create betting IDs, and sold them to the punters. On every transaction, a three percent commission was charged by the syndicate.


The report says that for offline betting, the accused used phone calls and made entries in Notepad depending on the rates of the betting. Parveen has rented a house for Rs. 35,000 per month to run the business for the last two years, the report mentions, quoting sources. He made a profit of Rs. 40,000 every March day.

According to Kochhar, the entire network is controlled from Dubai.
