New Delhi: Police, on Sunday, arrested 11 people ahead of the third and final T20 International between India and New Zealand, set to be played in Kolkata.
Eleven people arrested by Kolkata police near the Eden Gardens Stadium were allegedly selling tickets illegally, police told news agency PTI. Reportedly, 60 match tickets were seized from them, which were being sold at a higher price. Security has been beefed up in the stadium and the surrounding area to prevent any untoward incident, a senior police officer told PTI.
A police officer told PTI that over 2,000 personnel from various units of Kolkata Police, including RAF and HRFS, were deployed. He said that an anti-rowdy squad has also been deployed near the stadium and also informed that officers of the level of Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner have been deployed in the stadium and surrounding areas.
Officers in plain uniform are also stationed at different places around the Eden Gardens.
"Officers in plain clothes are also at different places around Eden Gardens. We are not taking any chance and want to ensure that the sporting event takes place smoothly," the officer told PTI.
Coming back to the match, India won the toss and decided to bowl first to test its batting strength on a track where usually a team after winning the toss opts to bowl first due to the 'due factor'.
