Ajinkya Rahane was the only Indian to score a century in the recently played Test series between India and Australia. With the help of his century, India equaled the series by winning the second Test in Melbourne. India ultimately won the four-match Test series 2–1 vs Australia.
During the India vs England Test series, Ajinkya Rahane will have a chance to surpass former team India captain MS Dhoni in terms of most Test runs scored. The first Test of the Ind vs Eng Test series is slated to be played in Chennai from 5 February.

If Rahane manages to score 406 runs in the 4-match series against England, he will surpass MS Dhoni. Dhoni has scored 4876 runs in 90 Tests at an average of 38.09, which included 6 Test centuries.

If Rahane scores a single century against England, then he will surpass Polly Umrigar and Murali Vijay in terms of maximum Tons in Test cricket.
