Eoin Morgan-led England thumped India by eight wickets in the first T20I at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20 series.

Skipper Eion Morgan's decision to field first after winning the toss proved to be right as English bowlers took advantage of the unpredictable Motera pitch to restrict India to 124/7 and then chase down the target easily in just 15.3 overs.

India had a very poor start to their innings. Rohit Sharma was rested for the series-opener. In his absence, Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings with KL Rahul.

India lost its first wicket for just two runs when KL Rahul got out for just 1 run. Captain Virat Kohli, who came down at number 3, was dismissed for a duck.

After this, Shikhar Dhawan (4) also got out in a short time. India's top order collapsed in front of English bowler Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer and Mark Wood.

Flamboyant Rishabh Pant, popular among the fans for his unorthodox batting style, was the next man in.

Pant left Archer bemused by playing a reverse-flick off the English all-rounders' delivery for a six.

After Pant's stylish stroke, the commentator was heard saying that James Anderson will surely breathe a sigh of relief as Pant had hit a similar kind of a shot against James Anderson during the Test series.

Jason Roy (32-ball 49) top-scored with the bat for visitors and Jofra Archer (3/23) was awarded the Man of the Match for his remarkable bowling performance.
