New Delhi: Indian cricket team's star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah on Monday successfully picked his 100th Test wickets in India vs England fourth Test at the Kennington Oval in London. The sensational genius achieved the mega milestone by messing up the stumps of England batsman Ollie Pope. With this, Bumrah became the fastest Indian fast-bowler to take 100 Test wickets.
When it comes to taking the fastest 100 Test wickets, Bumrah has broken the record of 1983 World Cup winning skipper Kapil Dev. The ex-India captain had reached the 100-wicket mark in the 25th Test match of his career, while Bumrah has achieved this feat in his 24th Test match itself.
Out of these 100 Test wickets, Bumrah has taken 96 wickets on foreign soil. In India he has taken only 4 wickets. Bumrah also made a record of taking five wickets in an innings six times in his Test career so far.
Irfan Pathan, Mohammed Shami, Javagal Srinath and Ishant Sharma are the other bowlers who have taken the fastest 100 wickets among Indian fast bowlers. Pathan had attained this feat in his 28th Test match, Shami in 29 Tests, Srinath in 30 Tests and Ishant Sharma in 33 Test matches.
Overall, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin holds the record for taking the fastest 100 wickets for India. He had achieved this milestone in just 18 Test matches.
Talking about the fastest bowlers to take 100 Test wickets for India, spinners are among the top seven bowlers in the elite list. Ashwin is followed by Erapalli Prasanna (20 Tests), Anil Kumble (21 Tests), Bhagwat Chandrasekhar (22 Tests), Subhash Gupte (22 Tests), Pragyan Ojha (22 Tests), Vinoo Mankad (23 Tests) and Ravindra Jadeja (24 Tests).
Team India on Monday gained an emphatic 157-run win over England in the Ind vs Eng 4th test match at The Oval. With this win, the visitors have now taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series.
