New Delhi: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has advised current captain Virat Kohli to seek help from master blaster Sachin Tendulkar after his dismal performance in the ongoing India vs England Test series. In the 3rd Test, the Indian skipper was dismissed by James Anderson in the first innings for just 7 runs on Wednesday. Reacting to Virat's dismissal, Virat said that the Indian captain should immediately call Sachin Tendulkar and ask him for help.
Gavaskar said during commentary in the Leeds Test, 'Virat Kohli will have to immediately call Sachin and ask him what should I do? Do what Sachin did in the Sydney Test. Tell yourself that I will not engage in cover drives."
It was for the second time in this series that Virat Kohli was departed by James Anderson. On day 1 of Ind vs Eng 3rd Test, Virat tried playing a straight drive off Anderson's delivery but the ball was pitched way outside the off-stump and the India captain was ultimately caught by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. Kohli has so far scored only 69 runs in four innings of three Test matches.
James Anderson has dismissed Virat Kohli for the seventh time in Test cricket. Anderson is now on par with Nathan Lyon in terms of dismissing Virat Kohli for the most number of times in Test cricket.
Gavaskar said that Virat Kohli's tendency to play cover drive or attempt a shot on a delivery pitched outside off-stump is a matter of great concern.
“That is a bit of a worry for me, because he is getting dismissed at the fifth, sixth and even seventh stump. In 2014, he was getting out more around the off-stump," added Gavaskar.
