New Delhi: Team India has suffered a major setback before leaving for the South African tour. Rohit Sharma, the newly-appointed white-ball cricket captain, reportedly got injured during a practice session in Mumbai, InsideSport reported.

According to the InsideSport report, new Test vice-captain Rohit along with his teammates Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Shardul Thakur were practicing in the nets at Sharad Pawar Academy in the afternoon.

It was during this practice session when Rohit Sharma was hit by the ball on his hand thrown by India's throw-down specialist Raghuvendra after which the star batter was in a lot of pain. However, no official information has been given by the BCCI about Rohit's injury.

Rohit Sharma had recently posted a video on his Instagram account on Friday, in which he can be seen doing some intense batting practice.

During the session, Rohit faced some fiery deliveries with a lot of bounce, very similar to the ones he might face from the South African fast-bowlers in near future. It looks like Rohit was practicing according to the conditions he might have to face on South African soil.

The Indian team will leave for South Africa from Mumbai on 16th December. Due to threats from Omicron in South Africa, the series will be played inside a bio-bubble. India is scheduled to play the first Test of the three-match Test series on South Africa tour from December 26 at Centurion's SuperSport Park.
