New Delhi: An all-around performance of the Indian cricket team helped them beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in the first Test at Punjab's Mohali Cricket Stadium on Sunday to go 1-0 up in the two-match Test series. For India, Ravindra Jadeja starred both with the bat and bowl.


The all-rounder scored an unbeaten 175 runs to help his team post 574/8 against Sri Lanka on Day 2 and later on Day 3's morning session, he picked up a 5-fer to trigger the Lankan batting collapse today and followed that up with a 4-fer in the second.






As expected, Sri Lanka totally surrendered in front of the home side. The Lankans batted for a total of 125 overs in both innings combined.


Batting first, India declared their first innings at 574/8 on the second day. In reply, Sri Lanka was reduced to just 174 runs in their first innings and were forced to play a follow-on.


In the second innings as well, the Sri Lankan team looked completely under pressure and could only score 178 runs in 60 overs. For India, Jadeja and Ashwin took 4 wickets apiece. India now have an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match series against Sri Lanka.
