New Delhi: India's middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer on Wednesday registered his maiden international century in the 50-over format during the first ODI against New Zealand being played at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Iyer who came into bat at number 4 with India at 50/1 achieved the milestone in the 43rd over of the innings.


Iyer steadied India's innings with a 102-run stand with skipper Virat Kohli before being finally dismissed by Tim Southee in the 46th over after playing a knock of 103 runs. Before this match, Iyer had six half-centuries to his credit in his 16-match ODI career with 88 being his top score before his century feat .

In the ongoing match, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first.India posted a mammoth 347/4 in 50 overs riding high on Iyer's ton and KL Rahul's fiery fifty. Virat Kohli chipped in with 50 while openers Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal laid a strong foundation.
