New Delhi: Virat Kohli who has a habit of breaking records in every other ODI he plays achieved yet another milestone during India's 1st ODI against New Zealand in Seddon Park in Hamilton.


During his 50-run knock, Virat Kohli went past Sourav Ganguly on the list of Indian skippers with most runs  in ODI cricket. Kohli, with 5123 runs, went past Ganguly's tally of 5104 runs as Indian skipper.

Virat Kohli played a steady 51-run knock after walking into bat at No. 3 for India at Seddon Park. The India captain struck 6 boundaries in a well-paced knock wherein he was involved in a 100-plus stand with Shreyas Iyer. Kohli was eventually outfoxed by a brilliant googly from leg-spinner Ish Sodhi as he had walk back after making his 58th fifty in ODIs.

Since taking over as the Indian ODI skipper, Kohli took only 87 matches to get past Ganguly's run feat. The prolific run geter has scored 5123 runs at staggering average of 76.46 laced with 21 centuries and 23 fifties as ODI captain.

Kohli is 7th on the list of players with most runs as ODI captain. He is 3rd on the Indian list behind MS Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin. World Cup-winning former Australia captain Ricky Ponting tops the chart with 8497 runs.
