India posted an imposing target of 348 against New Zealand in the 1st ODI of the 3-match series being played at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. Shreyas Iyer struck his maiden ton to power India to a daunting 347-run total.


After Kiwis skipper Tom Latham invited India to bat first, debutants Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal laid down a solid platform for team India with a fifty stand. Just as when both the openers were looking well settled, Colin Grandhomme dismissed Shaw and Agarwal fell soon to Southee for 32.

Skipper Virat Kohli then steadied the innings with Shreyas Iyer by notching up a hundred run partnership. Just after skipper Kohli reached his 58th ODI half ton, leg spinner Ish Sodhi clean bowled Kohli with a well disguised googly.


Shreyas Iyer then stepped up the scoring rate with in-form KL Rahul to take India past the 250-mark and head for a massive total. Shreyas Iyer brought up his maiden ODI ton in just 101 deliveries to set the stage for the final flourish.
