New Delhi: Hosts England completely dominated Day 2 of the India vs England third Test currently being played at Headingley ground in Leeds. Skipper Joe Root batted fiercely against the Indian bowling and scored the third century of this series. England were bowled out by India for 432 runs after they sealed a 354-run lead. Though the conditions have eased out a bit, it will be a tough task for India to save the 3rd Test.
During the England innings on Day 2 of Ind vs Eng 3rd Test, a strange incident happened. The on-field umpires suddenly asked Indian wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant to remove the taping from his gloves.
Before the start of the third session, match officials Alex Wharf and Richard Kettleborough asked Rishabh Pant to remove the webbing from his wicket-keeping gloves, which was visible between his fourth and fifth fingers. As per the MCC laws, this isn't allowed.
According to Law 27.2.1: If, as permitted under 27.1, a wicketkeeper can use a tape to join the index finger and the thumb, but the use of any kind of tape or any other thing is not allowed between the rest of the fingers.
Even commentators and David Lloyd and Nasser Hussain shed light on the incident.
“There's a lot in the laws of the game about the webbing, but we’re hearing from the third umpire, Richard Illingworth, that he wasn’t allowed and he’s not allowed to tape his gloves like that, so they’ve asked him to take that tape off,” Hussain said.
The fans will expect the Indian batsmen to bounce back in the second innings to avoid a humiliating defeat in the Headingley Test. All eyes will also be on how under-fire Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant bats in the second innings.
