Kolkata: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived  at Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata to witness the day-night Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens on Friday. On the request of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, she will be visiting to inaugurate the historic event.

Newly-appointed Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly arrived at the airport to receive PM Hasina.

India’s first-ever day-night Test match against Bangladesh on Friday is going to witness a full-pack house at the iconic Eden Gardens. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and BCCI boss, Sourav Ganguly, has already intimated a massive crowd on the opening day, including a number of renowned celebrities, politicians and sports stars.


Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar, in a statement, said, “A request by our prime minister was made to Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina to attend IND vs BAN 2nd Test, in view of the historic nature of the first-ever day-night Test match to be played on Indian soil, and bearing in mind the special occasion that this represents in Indian sport.”

“So, it was most appropriate that the first day/night Test in India, being played between India and Bangladesh, be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh,” he further added.

The pink Test is going to be the latest chapter in the history of Indian cricket. India have so far won all their six matches since the start of the Test Championship, whitewashing West Indies and South Africa in their last two series.
