Team India's middle-order batter KL Rahul's place in the national team has come under scrutiny due to his prolonged lean patch. In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rahul struggled for runs in India vs Australia first two Test matches.
Amidst all the chaos and criticism, the star batter and his wife Athiya Shetty visited Ujjain's renowned Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple ahead of India vs Australia 3rd Test in Indore.
A video has gone viral on social media in which the celebrity couple were seen taking the blessings of the almighty.
Kl Rahul was recently removed as vice-captain of India's Test team due to his repeated failures in the format. The wicketkeeper-batter's last ton in Tests came back in December 2021 vs South Africa at Centurion. Rahul scored just 38 runs in the first two Tests against Australia with an average of 12.67.
Former India coach Ravi Shastri reckoned that in-form youngster Shubman Gill will be challenging KL Rahul for the opening slot for Ind vs Aus 3rd Test, set to be played at the Holkar stadium in Indore, starting Wednesday.
Talking to ICC Review Podcast Shastri said, “If the vice-captain doesn’t perform, someone can take his place; at least the tag is not there. I’m being blunt and brutal, I never like vice-captain in home conditions. Overseas, it’s different. Here, you want prime form, you want someone like Shubman Gill, who’s red hot. He will challenge. He has to bang that door down and get into the side. Now, he’s not the vice-captain, it has to be team management’s decision.”
“The team management will decide (the vice-captain). They know his (Rahul’s) form, they know his mental state. They know how they should be watching someone like Shubman Gill”.
