New Delhi: Former WWE superstar Shad Gaspard went missing after he was caught in a rip current near Venice beach on Sunday. The professional wrestler, known for being part of the duo Cryme Tyme, went out for swimming with his 10-year-old when he was swept out to the sea. According to reports, Shad instructed the lifeguards to rescue his son first during the tide.


Shad Gaspard and his son and other swimmers were caught in a strong rip current at Marina del Rey beach California. While the lifeguards pulled out his son from the water, Gaspard disappeared underwater. The U.S Coast Guard has suspended efforts to locate the former WWE superstar, as per a report in CBS Los Angeles.

Shad’s wife Siliana Gaspard had earlier issued a statement to thank the rescue team for their efforts.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the first responders who rescued Aryeh and to the lifeguards, Coast Guard, divers, fire and police departments for their continued efforts to help find our beloved Shad,” the statement said.

WWE issued a statement and asked the fans to pray for Shad’s family. The official Twitter handle of the company tweeted, “WWE’s thoughts are with the family of Shad Gaspard. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts during this difficult time.”



WWE Chairman Vince McMahon wrote, "The thoughts of everyone at WWE are with Shad Gaspard’s family during this difficult time."



Dwayne Johson aka The Rock sent his prayers to Shad's family. He wrote, "My prayers and hope for Shad Gaspard’s wife, son and family during this unthinkable time. Man, this is a tough one. A really tough one.  Great guy."



Several WWE superstars including Kevin Owens, Natalya and Beth Phoenix prayed for Shad's well-being on social media. Check out the tweets!







Shad Gaspard competed in WWE's tag team division. He was part of  26-man battle royal at WrestleMania 26, which was eventually won by Yoshi Tatsu. Although fans loved his team with JTG, the duo failed to win the WWE tag team titles during their stint with the company. After getting released from his contract in November, 2010, he continued to wrestle on the independent circuit.

Shad also worked in TV shows like 'From Dusk till Dawn: The Series' and 'In the Cut'.
