After much speculation, it can now be confirmed that PSV Eindhoven's Cody Gakpo will complete a Liverpool transfer for a record transfer fees. While transfer rumours suggested that it could be a tussle between Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool to rope him in, the Dutch club PSV have confirmed that they have "reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo."

The official statement from the side which competes in Eredivisie also confirms with Gapko will be leaving for England immediately to complete the necessary formalities before he can officially be a Liverpool player. Although neither of the clubs have made any official statement regarding the transfer fees, general manager of PSV, Marcel Brands, said that it would be a record transfer.

The statement released by the club, in its conclusion, said that the negotiations between both the clubs were completed on Boxing Day itself which in turn allowed Gakpo to travel to England at the earliest.

Liverpool estimated to give a total of €50 million to PSV

Despite no such confirmations, it has widely been reported that the Reds could end up giving a total of around €50 million to PSV. While Gakpo will be included after an initial sum of around €37 million after add-ons and other benefits, the figure could come up to  €50 million. The same was shared by a Dutch journalist Rik Elfrinkn on Twitter.

With the transfer now only a formality before the new signing is announced by Liverpool, it would be interesting to see when the Dutch footballer gets time to make his debut for the Reds. Team's manager Jurgen Klopp is already worried with players like Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz having sustained injuries and this could be a perfect opportunity for the 23-year-old to play and leave an impact.
