Premier League: Current Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has reportedly agreed to join Premier League giants Chelsea. The news comes in from Italian journalist and football transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, on Tuesday, May 28, and if the reports are to be believed, the Italian will sign a five-year deal at the Stamford Bridge.
The former assistant of Pep Guardiola has recently gained fame after leading former Premier League champions Leicester City back into the top tier football division after winning the EFL Championship by some margin. The official confirmation is yet to come but by the looks of it, and adding the fact that Chelsea have sacked Mauricio Pochettino, Enzo Maresca can very well be seen on the sidelines of the Stamford Bridge from Premier League 2024/25 season.
Enzo Maresca's Rapid Rise In English Football
Enzo Maresca did not have the brighest of starts to their managerial career, as the Italian endured a horrid run in his first ever senior team managerial job at Parma. The tenure lasted merely 6 months, as the 44-year old was sacked in November 2021. The manager then went out of work and got his first job at Leicester City in July 2023 since his sacking.
Leicester City were coming off a relegation from Premier League and thr Italian had a mighty task to guide the former Premier League champions back into the league. Leicester City, under Enzo Maresca, played blistering football and won the EFL Championship by barest of margins, as they were challenged in a neck-to-neck title battle by Ipswich Town.
Leicester City, alongside Ipswich Town, gained the automatic promotion to Premier League after finishing in the Top 2, and not only that, the Foxes did extremely well in the FA Cup as well, only to be eliminated by Chelsea in the quarter-finals, the club who are now most probably the new home of Enzo Maresca.
