Premier League 2023/24: Sheffield United becomes the first side to get relegated from the Premier League 2023/24 season after getting hammered by Newcastle United on Saturday, April 27. 'The Magpies' were playing at their home, at the St. James Park, and took on 'The Blades' in their Matchday 35 fixture and the home side ended up winning the match 5-1 thanks to brace from Alexander Isak and goals from Bruno Guimaraes, Callum Wilson, and an own goal from Ben Osborn.

With the defeat, the point-deduction penalty to Nottingham Forest and Everton now won't come in handy for The Blades as they are currently on 16 points and can attain maximum 25 points, which is one less than Nottingham Forest, who have 26 in one lesser game than Sheffield United.

Sheffield United have though, avoided the worst ever finish in the history of the Premier League table, as the Blades have so far recorded 16 points, which are 5 more than the worst-ever record, which is being held by Derby County (2007/08).

Newcastle United have been a thorn in the back of Sheffield United, as it was this Newcastle United side that handed the now-relegated side their worst ever Premier League defeat, which came in the starting of the season, and the scoreline read 8-0. What's more humiliating is the fact that the defeat came at Sheffield United's home ground, the Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United's relegation now means that there are now 3 clubs fighting for the 17th place, as it is the last spot to retain Premier League status. The clubs fighting for the survival in Premier League are as follows:

  • Burnley

  • Luton Town

  • Nottingham Forest

However, if Nottingham Forest's penalty on points gets uplifted, they will retain their Premier League status, as they will create a huge gap between them and their nearest challengers.
